Boxing Day in Grenada
Boxing Day is the day after Christmas Day and is celebrated in Grenada. Most shops and businesses are closed in order for people to continue Christmas celebrations and to visit family and friends. It’s history is most likely tied with the British public holiday of Boxing Day when the alms boxes of churches were opened and the coins inside were distributed to the poor and needy.
Another possible theory is that Boxing Day was the day when boxes of food were distribued to the poor.
Although Christmas is traditionally associated with cold weather and snow, this festive season can be enjoyed with great aplomb in Grenada. It’s a time when many Grenadians who have moved away, will return to spend time with their loved ones who still live on the island. It’s a time for drinking sorrel juice and enjoying rum cake.
It’s also a time when there can often be more a breeze and cooler temperatures, which can appeal to many who want to escape the colder winter climes of Europe and North America.
We hope you can join us for Boxing Day so that we can continue the Christmas celebrations. If you can, then give us a call on 442 5252 and we will hold a table for you. Our BBQs are very popular, so you’ll need to make a reservation.
