Just 30 minutes by boat, Sandy Island Grenada is a very romantic and special island that many of our guests like to visit. This uninhabited and beautiful island is known as ‘Sandy Island‘. It’s the kind of place you might see on television and wish you were there—well, you can be there! But before we go any further, do know that we are talking out Sandy Island Grenada and not any other one.
And this island has been on television – it’s the location for the Bounty chocolate bar advert that was aired in the 80s and 90s.
As any Caribbean island should be, the beach is fringed with coconut trees with the type of background bird noises that you might hear in the Amazon. The island really is a pretty spot. We think that it’s the ideal place to enjoy a day out and a picnic. The water is crystal clear but azure blue at the same time. If you want a romantic setting to propose or to celebrate your engagement, wedding, or anniversary, then this is it!
The snorkeling is first class – there is a reef just off the island. If you like birdwatching, you’ll see a variety of birds that have made their home here, including hummingbirds, herons, and blackbirds. There’s also the interior to explore which is full of palm trees and of course, the abandoned hotel building. Great for photos.
The trip including lunch is US$200 per couple.
So what is this trip to Sandy Island Grenada?
We’ll arrange for you to meet one of the local fishermen – Cardy – who will be your tour guide for the day and take you to Sandy Island on his boat. The trip takes about 30 minutes, and you’ll enjoy passing local islands and beaches on your way. He will show you the best spots to snorkel and tell you what fish you might see. In fact, he will even be catching you a fish to cook for you for your lunch. We’ll be sending you off with a picnic too. He will probably climb up a coconut tree and pick you a coconut. It is amazing to watch him “walk” up one with no more apparent effort than walking along a road!
While you take a swim or a snorkel to see the colourful tropical fish and get acquainted with the island, Cardy will be organising your lunch for you. He’ll grill you a freshly caught fish seasoned with local herbs and cooked over an open fire. There will probably be some pumpkin involved and he will wrap it all in a foil wrap so it all stays compact ready for you to eat.
